The Checkout tab decides how shoppers buy: by collecting products in a cart, or by ordering one product straight away. You can also offer both.
Where to find it
Open the builder, click the gear icon, and open the Checkout tab. It has two settings: Checkout method and Secondary method.
Checkout method
Choose between unified cart checkout or direct product page ordering.
- Add to cart: the main button adds the product to a cart. Shoppers keep shopping, then check out once for everything in the cart. Best for stores with many products, where shoppers often buy several.
- Fast checkout: the main button opens the order form for that product right away, with no cart. Best for single product stores, landing pages, and cash on delivery offers where fewer steps mean more orders.
Secondary method
Enable the opposite checkout method as a secondary option. Turn on Secondary method to show a second button under the main one:
- With Add to cart as the main method, the second button is Buy now. It opens a pop-up form so the shopper can order that product directly.
- With Fast checkout as the main method, the second button is Add to cart, so shoppers can add products and keep shopping.
What changes on your store
- Product page buttons: the product form shows an Add to cart button or a Buy now button section to edit the button text and colors, plus a section for the second button when Secondary method is on. See Product info section.
- Form display: with Fast checkout, the product form gets a Form display setting: Inline shows the order form on the page, Pop up opens it in a window.
- Product cards: a card buy button adds to the cart with Add to cart, and opens a checkout form with Fast checkout.
- The cart: the cart in the header and the cart page only exist when Add to cart is the main or the secondary method. With Fast checkout and no Secondary method, visiting the cart page shows your 404 page. See Cart and checkout pages.
Change it step by step
- Open the Checkout tab in Settings.
- Pick Add to cart or Fast checkout under Checkout method.
- Turn Secondary method on or off.
- Open a product page in the builder and check the buttons, then click Publish.
Which fields the order form asks for
Both methods use the same order form. Its fields are set in the Checkout form tab. See Checkout form fields.
Common setups
- One product, ads to a landing page: Fast checkout, Form display Inline, Secondary method off.
- A catalog store: Add to cart, Secondary method on, so impatient shoppers can still buy one product fast.
Good to know
The checkout method belongs to the market you are editing, so each market can use a different one. Changes go live when you click Publish.
