What Cash on delivery does
The Cash on delivery app adds a no-card payment option to your checkout. Buyers select it, place the order, and pay the delivery rider in cash when the parcel arrives. No payment gateway, no card credentials, and no transaction fees are involved.
Installing Cash on delivery
- Go to Apps in the left-hand menu.
- Find Cash on delivery and click it.
- Click Install and confirm the prompt.
- The settings modal opens. Toggle Activate to on.
- Click Save.
Once saved, Cash on delivery appears as a payment option at your store's checkout.
Settings
The Cash on delivery app has a single setting:
- Activate: when on, buyers can select cash on delivery at checkout. When off, the option is hidden.
There are no API keys, bank details, or other credentials to enter.
How COD orders flow
When a buyer places a COD order, Storeep records it with an abandoned status by default because no payment has been received yet. The order moves to pending once you confirm it manually or once the Automator app changes it automatically.
Pairing with the Automator app
The Automator app (available separately in the Apps marketplace) can automatically change abandoned COD orders to pending status after a configurable number of minutes (10–60 minutes, default 20). Once an order becomes pending, it is forwarded to any connected courier or fulfilment service you have installed. This removes the need to manually review and confirm every COD order.
To use this pairing:
- Install and activate the Cash on delivery app.
- Install the Automator app.
- In Automator settings, enable Auto changer abandoned orders and set your preferred Recovery time in minutes.
- Save. Automator will now move abandoned COD orders to pending automatically after the configured delay.
Tip: Do not set the recovery time too short. Buyers need enough time to complete the checkout flow naturally; a value below 10 minutes risks interrupting active checkouts.
Pitfalls to avoid
- Cash on delivery does not verify payment. A buyer can place an order and refuse delivery. Track your COD return rate in the Orders section.
- If you install courier apps that pull COD orders automatically, make sure Automator's recovery time gives enough buffer before orders are dispatched.
