What the app does
The Contentsquare app adds the Contentsquare tag to every page of your store. Contentsquare is the company behind Hotjar, and Hotjar features now live in Contentsquare. The tag records visitor sessions (replays) and builds heatmaps that you watch in your Contentsquare dashboard. To compare it with Microsoft Clarity, see How do I record visitor sessions and heatmaps with Microsoft Clarity or Contentsquare (Hotjar)?
Before you start
- Sign in at app.contentsquare.com. If you used Hotjar before, sign in with the same account.
- Add your store as a site, using your store's website address.
- Copy your Tag ID. It is a short code of letters and numbers, for example
359c79f788098. You also see it at the end of the tag address in the tracking code Contentsquare shows you.
You do not need to paste Contentsquare's tracking code anywhere. Storeep adds it for you.
Set up the app in Storeep
- Open Apps, Contentsquare and click Install.
- Make sure Activate is on.
- Paste your ID into Tag ID.
- Click Save. You see "Contentsquare has been updated successfully".
The settings
- Activate: when on, Contentsquare monitors visitor interactions and records sessions. Turn it off and click Save to stop recording. You can leave the Tag ID empty while the app is off.
- Tag ID: your Contentsquare tag. Required while Activate is on. Capital letters are accepted and saved in lowercase.
Check that it works
- Open your store in a normal browser window and click around for a minute.
- In Contentsquare, open your site. New sessions can take a few minutes to show.
Common problems
- An error saying the tag ID must use only letters a to f and numbers: you pasted something that is not a Contentsquare Tag ID. An old Hotjar Site ID (numbers only), a store name, or a domain will not work. Copy the Tag ID from Contentsquare.
- "Please enter the tag ID": the ID is empty while Activate is on.
- No recordings: check that Activate is on, that the Tag ID belongs to the site you are looking at, and test with ad blockers off.
- Recording limits: how many sessions you can record depends on your Contentsquare plan.
