The builder remembers your changes so you can step back and forward. This article explains how that history works and lists the keyboard shortcuts.
Undo and Redo buttons
Undo and Redo are the two arrow buttons in the top bar. Undo steps back one change, Redo steps forward again. A button is greyed out when there is nothing to undo or redo.
Undo covers almost everything you do in the builder: editing a setting, adding, moving, duplicating, hiding, or deleting a section or block, pasting, pasting a style, changing a global setting, and Clone selected page. Dragging a slider or a color picker does not create a step for every small move.
How history is kept
- Per market and per page. Each page of each market has its own history. Undo on the Home page never touches the Product page.
- Only while the builder is open. When you reload the page or leave the builder, the history starts again from the published version.
- A new change clears Redo. If you undo three steps and then make a new change, you can no longer redo those three steps.
What Undo cannot reverse
Some actions are saved straight to your live store. Undo does not bring back what they replaced:
- Apply to all pages. See Apply a section to all pages.
- Clone market and Import theme preset. See Clone a page or a whole market and Export and import a theme preset.
Publishing does not clear your history. If you undo after publishing, the builder goes back, but your live store still shows the published version until you click Publish again.
Keyboard shortcuts
On Mac use Cmd, on Windows and Linux use Ctrl.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Z: undo.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z or Cmd/Ctrl + Y: redo.
- Cmd/Ctrl + S: publish. It does the same as the Publish button, and stops the browser's own "save page" window.
- Escape: closes an open menu, list, picker, or window.
- Arrow up and arrow down: in the number box next to a slider, raise or lower the value one step.
- Tab and Shift + Tab: in a code box (such as Custom CSS), indent or outdent the line instead of moving to the next field.
- Enter: in the AI assistant, sends your message. Shift + Enter adds a new line.
Right-click also helps: right-click a section or block row to open its menu, or right-click an add button to paste there. See Copy and paste sections, blocks, and styles.
Undo while typing
When your cursor is in a text field, Cmd/Ctrl + Z and redo work on your typing only, like in any text box. Click outside the field first to undo builder steps with the keyboard, or use the Undo button.
Undo with the AI assistant
You can also say "Undo the last change" or "Undo the last 3 changes" to the AI assistant. See AI builder actions.
