Digital products are things you do not ship: e-books, courses, audio, templates, software, or any file or link. The form is almost the same as a physical product, with a File tab where you add what the customer receives.
Getting started
- Go to Products.
- Click Add new product.
- Choose Digital product ("E-books, courses, files for download").
The form has five tabs: Product information, File, Markets, Collections, and Search engine optimization.
What is different from a physical product
- No variants. A digital product has one price.
- No stock, SKU, barcode, or weight. Digital products are never out of stock.
- No Options tab, so no Taxable setting.
- Customers must give their email address at checkout.
Everything else works the same: Publish, Hide, Landing page, photos and videos, name, description, price, discounted price, discount end date, quantity limits, gift, markets, collections, and SEO. See How do I add a physical product? for those fields.
The File tab
Pick a Method:
File upload
- Click the upload area or drag and drop your file.
- The file must not be bigger than 10 MB.
- Allowed formats: TXT, PDF, ZIP, WEBP, AVIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, MP3, AIFF, WAV, and OGG. To send several files, put them in one ZIP file.
File link
- Upload a large file to a cloud service (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and similar) and paste its share link.
- Make sure the link opens for anyone who has it, not only for you.
How customers get the file
When a customer pays online with PayPal, Stripe, Paystack, or CMI, Storeep emails them right after the payment. With File upload the file is attached to the email. With File link the email contains your link.
For other payment methods, such as cash on delivery, bank transfer, or mobile money, the file is not sent by itself. Open the order, take the customer's email address, and send the file or link yourself once you have the payment. See online payments to accept card payments.
Things to watch out for
- If you choose File upload and do not add a file, the save fails with "Please upload the file".
- If your file is bigger than 10 MB, use File link.
- If a customer says the email did not arrive, ask them to check their spam folder, then send the file yourself.
- Digital products cannot be copied from another Storeep store with the import tool. Use Duplicate inside the same store instead.
