How do I back up or restore my store design (Export theme preset, Import theme preset)?

Download a .st backup file of a market's design with Export theme preset, and restore it with Import theme preset. What the file contains, what an import replaces, how the theme can change, and what the import error messages mean.

A theme preset is a backup file of one market's design. You can download it at any time and import it later to bring that design back, in the same market or in another market of your store. It is the safest way to protect your work before a big change.

Where to find it

  1. Open the builder.
  2. Click the Markets tab (the country flag) at the top of the left sidebar.
  3. Open the menu on a market, or right-click it.
  4. Choose Export theme preset or Import theme preset.

Both options show on every market, including the one you are editing.

Export theme preset

The hint says Download all page settings, global settings and theme. A file ending in .st downloads, named with "theme preset", your store name, the market, and the date. It contains:

  • Every page of that market.
  • The market's global settings (colors, fonts, layout, checkout form, and the other Settings tabs).
  • The name of your active theme.

The file holds the published design. Changes you have not published yet are not in it, so click Publish first if you want them included. Only Storeep can read the file. The download may not work inside the iOS app, so export from a browser on a computer.

Import theme preset

The hint says Replace this market with a theme preset file.

  1. Open the menu on the market you want to replace and click Import theme preset.
  2. A warning asks you to confirm: "This will replace all pages and settings of this market with the imported file." Click Import.
  3. Pick your .st file.

Every page and all global settings of that market are replaced by the file. The import is saved to your live store right away, with no Publish step, and it cannot be undone. If you might want the current design back, export it before you import.

The theme can change too

If the file was made while another theme was active, the import switches your store to that theme. The theme is shared by all markets, so every market gets the new style. You can switch back any time from Themes. See Store themes.

When to use it

  • Before applying a ready-made store, which replaces your pages. See Ready-made stores.
  • Before Clone market or a big redesign.
  • To try a new look: export, experiment, and import the file again if you do not like the result.
  • To copy a design to another market: export one market and import the file into the other. Clone market does the same in one step.

Import error messages

  • The selected file is not a valid market export or The uploaded file is empty or unreadable: the file is damaged or is not a Storeep theme preset. Export it again.
  • The theme used by this export is not available in your store: the theme in the file can no longer be used. Nothing was changed.
  • The market export was created with an unsupported version: the file cannot be read by this version of the builder.

Staff members need the Themes permission to export or import.
