What store essentials control
The essentials panel holds three store-wide settings the rest of the platform relies on: the public name of your store, the time zone used to display every date and time in the dashboard, and the weight unit applied to product weights and shipping calculations. Setting these correctly before you add products saves you from correcting records later.
To open it, go to Settings and click the General card (described as "Store name, timezone, and units"). A dialog titled Store settings opens with all three fields. You need the settings permission to open or save this panel, so staff without it see a permission error.
Store name
The Store name field is required and is the public name of your store. The placeholder reads "Enter name here".
- Maximum length: 50 characters. Multi-byte characters such as Arabic or Chinese each count as one character, so the limit is measured in characters, not bytes.
- Leading and trailing spaces are trimmed before saving. A name that is blank or only spaces is rejected with "Please enter the store name".
- If you exceed 50 characters you see "The store name must not exceed 50 characters".
- The name is saved exactly as typed (after trimming), with no automatic capitalization.
Time zone
The Time zone field is a searchable dropdown (placeholder "Select time zone here"). Every date and time shown in the dashboard, including order timestamps, transaction dates, staff join dates, and report ranges, is displayed in this zone. The in-app hint explains it "ensures all dates and times across the platform are displayed accurately for your local time zone".
- Type any part of a city name or GMT offset into the search box to filter the list.
- The list runs from (GMT-12:00) International Date Line West through (GMT+13:00) Tokelau Is. and covers cities and regions worldwide, including Eastern Time (US & Canada), Edinburgh/London, Riyadh, Casablanca, Cairo, and Chennai/Kolkata/Mumbai/New Delhi.
- Required: saving with no zone shows "Please select the time zone". A value that is not a recognized zone is rejected with "The time zone you have selected is incorrect".
- Changing the time zone later does not alter or delete any stored records. Existing data simply displays at the new local offset.
Weight unit
The Weight unit field (placeholder "Select unit here") sets the unit shown on product weight fields and used in shipping weight calculations. The in-app hint notes it is "used to calculate product prices, shipping weights, etc.". The four options are:
- Kilogram (kg)
- Gram (g)
- Pound (lb)
- Ounce (oz)
This field is required ("Please select the weight unit" if left empty, "The weight unit you have selected is incorrect" for any value outside the four). Switching the unit later does not convert weights you already entered: it only changes the label. After a switch, review your product weights and shipping rules so the numbers still make sense.
Saving and scope
Click Save. On success you see "Store settings have been updated successfully". If a field fails validation, an error message appears beneath that field and nothing is saved. All three settings apply to the whole store, not per market, so they are shared across every market and currency you sell in.
