How do I set a product meta title, slug, meta description, and search engine visibility?

Configure a product's SEO tab: meta title, URL slug rules and limits, meta description, keywords, and whether search engines can index the product.

The Search engine optimization tab controls how a product appears in browser tabs and search engine results, and whether search engines may index it. These settings apply to both physical and digital products, and you set them while adding or editing a product. For the full product form, see Add a physical product.

Where to find it

  1. Open Products and add or edit a product.
  2. Open the Search engine optimization tab.

A live preview updates as you type so you can see how the listing will look in search results.

Fields and limits

  • Product meta title: up to 255 characters. It shows at the top of browser tabs and in search results. If you leave it blank, the product name is used automatically.
  • Product meta link (the slug): the URL segment for the product page, for example my-product-name. Up to 255 characters. Allowed characters are lowercase letters, digits, Arabic letters (أ to ي), and hyphens. Anything you type is converted to lowercase. It must be unique within your store, and the page appears at yourdomain.com/products/your-slug.
  • Product meta description: optional, up to 160 characters. This is the summary text shown under your listing in search results.
  • Product meta keywords: optional, up to 255 characters in total. Type a keyword and press Enter to add it.
  • Visibility on search engines: when on, search engines are allowed to index this product. Default: on.

Rules and corner cases

  • The slug must be unique. If another product already uses the same link, saving fails with a duplicate-link error. Choose a different slug.
  • Allowed characters only. Spaces, uppercase-only symbols, and other punctuation are rejected. Use hyphens to separate words. Latin and Arabic letters are both supported.
  • Blank meta title falls back to the name. Leaving the meta title empty is fine; the product name fills in as the title.
  • Changing the slug of a published product changes its URL, which breaks any links customers or search engines saved earlier. Change it carefully.
  • Visibility is a request, not a guarantee. Turning it off asks search engines not to index the product, but indexing and ranking are ultimately decided by each search engine.
