The Automations tab holds behaviors your store does on its own. Today it has one setting: Autoplay Videos.
Where to find it
Open the builder, click the gear icon, and open the Automations tab. The section is called Store Behavior.
What Autoplay Videos does
Turn on Autoplay Videos and videos on your store start playing by themselves. The builder explains: Videos start playing when the visitor scrolls to them. Browser policies keep them muted until the visitor interacts with them.
- Videos you uploaded (for example in a product description): a video starts when it reaches the middle of the screen. It pauses when the shopper scrolls away and continues when they scroll back. After it ends, it does not start again by itself.
- Embedded videos from YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, and Dailymotion: the store asks the player to start on its own and muted.
- Looping background videos: start playing muted.
A video that is already on screen when the page opens starts right away. Videos added inside a Custom code section, such as a YouTube embed, follow the same setting.
Turn it on
- Open the Automations tab in Settings.
- Turn on Autoplay Videos.
- Click Publish.
- Open your live store and scroll to a video to check it.
To stop it, turn off Autoplay Videos and publish. Videos then wait for the shopper to press play.
Why videos start muted
Browsers only allow a video to play by itself when it has no sound. This is a rule of Chrome, Safari, and the other browsers, not a Storeep setting. The shopper can turn the sound on in the player.
When to use it
- Turn it on when your videos show the product without needing sound: a product in use, a before and after, an unboxing.
- Leave it off when your videos need sound to make sense, or when you want shoppers to choose to watch.
Troubleshooting
- "Autoplay is not working." Scroll down to the video. Videos far down the page wait until the shopper reaches them, so they do not play while out of sight.
- The video has no sound. That is expected for autoplay. The shopper can unmute it.
- An embedded video still does not start. Some video sites or browser settings can block autoplay even when muted. The shopper can still press play.
- A video plays even with Autoplay off. Some sections, such as a slideshow with a video slide, play their background video on their own. That is part of the section design.
Good to know
This setting belongs to the market you are editing and applies to all its pages. Changes go live when you click Publish. To add videos to your products, see Product media.
