What these apps do
- Snapchat browser pixel: adds the Snap Pixel to your store, so Snapchat sees what shoppers do in their browser.
- Snapchat API conversion: sends your orders to Snapchat from Storeep's servers through the Snap Conversions API.
Use both with the same pixel. How they work together is explained in What is the server-side Conversion API (CAPI) and why use it?
Before you start
- A Snapchat Ads Manager account (Snapchat Business).
- A Snap Pixel in Events Manager inside Snapchat Ads Manager. Its Pixel ID is a long code with dashes, like
1a2b3c4d-1a2b-1a2b-1a2b-1a2b3c4d5e6f. - For the API conversion app, a Conversions API access token, which you generate in Snapchat Ads Manager (in Events Manager or your business settings).
Set up the Snapchat browser pixel
- Open Apps, find Snapchat browser pixel, and click Install.
- Open the app and click Add new pixel.
- Keep Activate on, type a Pixel name, and paste your Pixel ID.
- Pick your Markets and the Conversion event type: Purchase (default) or Reserve.
- Click Add.
Some cash on delivery stores use Reserve for orders that are not paid yet. The shared fields are explained in How do browser pixels work in Storeep?
Set up the Snapchat API conversion
- Install Snapchat API conversion from Apps, open it, and click Add new pixel.
- Keep Activate on. Turn on Abandoned orders only if you want recovered abandoned orders sent too.
- Type a Pixel name and paste the same Pixel ID as your browser pixel.
- Pick the same Markets and Conversion event type.
- Paste your token into Snapchat access token.
- Leave Activate test mode off for now, and click Add.
What Snapchat receives
- From the browser: PAGE_VIEW, VIEW_CONTENT, ADD_CART, SEARCH, START_CHECKOUT, a SIGN_UP when someone sends your contact form, and PURCHASE or RESERVE on the thank-you page.
- From the server: your conversion event for each order and a VIEW_CONTENT for the first product, collection, or landing page a visitor opens.
- Order events include the value, currency, products, and the buyer's email and phone in hashed form. The Snapchat click ID is sent too when the visitor came from an ad.
Avoid double counting
Storeep gives the browser and server copies of each event the same dedup ID, so Snapchat counts it once. This only works when both apps use the same Pixel ID and the same event type.
Test your setup
- Get a test event code from the test events screen in Snapchat Events Manager.
- Edit your entry in the Snapchat API conversion app, turn on Activate test mode, paste the code into Test code, and click Save.
- Place a test order and check that the event shows in Snapchat.
- Turn test mode off when you are done.
For the browser pixel, the Snap Pixel Helper extension for Chrome shows which events fire.
Common problems
- "The pixel id you have entered is incorrect": the Snap Pixel ID has letters, numbers, and dashes. Copy the whole ID, not the pixel code.
- Server events stopped: your access token expired or was removed. Generate a new one and edit the entry.
- To verify your domain with Snapchat, use the Domain Verifier app.
