In the builder, your edits only show in the preview until you click Publish. There is no separate draft: publishing saves your changes and puts them on your live store in one step.
How Publish works
- Click Publish at the top right, or press Cmd/Ctrl + S.
- The button is greyed out when there is nothing new to publish, and it turns on as soon as you change something.
- When it works, you see The changes have been saved successfully. Shoppers see the new version from then on.
What one publish saves
A publish saves the page you are on, in the market you are on, plus that market's global settings (the Settings tab). It does not save other pages. So publish each page before you move to the next one.
If you switch page or market, or click Exit builder, with changes not yet published, a warning says "You have unsaved changes that will be lost." Click Cancel to stay and publish. Clicking Switch or Leave throws those changes away. Your browser also warns you if you close the tab.
Actions that go live without Publish
These are saved to your store as soon as you confirm them, and cannot be undone:
- Apply to all pages
- Clone market, see Clone a page or a whole market
- Import theme preset, see Export and import a theme preset
Clone selected page is different: it needs Publish like a normal edit.
When Publish stops you
- The builder jumps to a field: a field holds a value that cannot be saved. Fix it, then publish again.
- Keep at least one place in ..., or customers cannot complete the form.: a checkout dropdown has no city or region left. Tick at least one.
- At least one contact method (email or phone) must be required: set email or phone to required in the checkout form. See Checkout form fields.
- Failed to save changes. Please try again.: the connection failed. Click Retry.
Staff members need the Themes permission to publish.
My change does not show on my store
- It was not published. Go back to that page in the builder. If Publish is active, click it. If you left the page and confirmed the warning, the change was lost: make it again.
- Wrong market. Each market has its own design. Shoppers see the market of their country, or the one they picked in the country selector, and otherwise your primary market. Check the flag at the top of the sidebar, then edit that market or use Clone market.
- Wrong page. A product with Landing page turned on uses the Landing page design, not the Product page design. The Product page design is shared by all other products. See Which store pages can you edit.
- Only one page was changed. The header, footer, and announcement bar are separate on each page. Use Apply to all pages.
- The section is hidden. A crossed eye in the Sections list means it is hidden. Click it to show it, then publish. See Duplicate, hide, or delete sections and blocks.
- Maintenance mode is on. Shoppers then see the maintenance page instead of your store. See Maintenance page.
- An old tab. A store tab you opened before publishing still shows the old version. Reload it.
