An upsell in Storeep pairs one product (the base product) with another product (the upselled product). When a customer has the base product in their order and reaches checkout, Storeep presents the upselled product as an optional add-on. Upsells are an effective way to increase average order value without any extra advertising spend.
How upsells work
Each upsell is tied to a specific base product. When that base product is in the cart at checkout, the upselled product is shown as an optional add-on. The customer can accept or decline the offer. Storeep records both outcomes and tracks them as Total accepted and Total rejected counts so you can measure effectiveness over time.
Market restriction: the upsell offer is only shown in countries that both the base product and the upselled product are available in. For example, if the base product is available in Morocco and France but the upselled product is only available in Morocco, the upsell will only appear for Moroccan customers. The overlap is calculated automatically. You do not need to configure this manually.
The upsells list
Go to Upsells in your dashboard to see all your upsells. The table shows, for each upsell:
- Product: the base product (with image, name, creation date, and product type icon)
- An arrow indicating the direction of the upsell
- Upselled product: the product being offered as an add-on
- Markets: flag icons for up to 5 of the shared countries between the two products
- Total accepted: how many times this upsell offer was accepted by customers
- Total rejected: how many times customers declined the offer
- Free shipping: whether the free-shipping incentive is currently on or off for this upsell
- Status: whether the upsell is currently Activated or Deactivated
The list can be filtered by date range and sorted by creation date or last-updated date (ascending or descending). It paginates at 40 upsells per page.
Creating an upsell
Click Add new upsell at the top of the upsells page. The Add new upsell modal opens with the following fields.
Activate
A checkbox that controls whether the upsell goes live immediately after saving. Default: checked (activated). Uncheck to create the upsell in a paused state.
Free shipping
A checkbox that, when enabled, offers the customer free shipping on the upselled product. Default: unchecked. This appears as a separate incentive on the checkout upsell screen to encourage acceptance.
Product
Required. Search for and select the base product: the product that triggers this upsell offer when it is in the customer's cart. Each product can only have one upsell rule. Attempting to create a second upsell for a product that already has one returns the error: The product you have selected already has an upsell.
Upselled product
Required. Search for and select the product to offer as the upsell add-on. This can be any product in your store, including the same product as the base (for quantity-based upsells).
Head description
Optional rich-text field. This text appears above the upsell product on the checkout offer screen. Use it to explain the value of the add-on or create urgency. Maximum 1,000 characters. Supports bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text alignment, text size, lists, blockquote, text color, and background color.
Footer description
Optional rich-text field. This text appears below the upsell product on the checkout offer screen. Use it for disclaimers, offer terms, or additional persuasive copy. Maximum 1,000 characters. Same formatting options as Head description.
Click Add to save. The upsell is created and immediately appears in the list.
Editing an upsell
Click any row in the upsells list to open the Edit upsell modal. All fields are editable: you can change the base product, the upselled product, toggle Activate and Free shipping, and update either description. Click Save to apply changes.
Changing the base product to one that already has another upsell rule will return a validation error. Changing it to a product that has no existing upsell will succeed.
Enabling and disabling upsells in bulk
Tick the checkboxes on one or more upsell rows. Click the settings icon (cog) at the top of the table, hover over Change status, and select Activated or Deactivated. The change applies to all selected upsells at once.
Deleting upsells
To delete a single upsell, click the trash icon on its row. To delete multiple upsells, tick their checkboxes and use Delete upsells from the bulk action menu. Deleted upsells are removed permanently.
Reading performance metrics
The Total accepted and Total rejected columns give you a direct signal on how well each offer is converting. A low acceptance rate combined with a high rejection count may mean the product choice, price, or description needs adjustment. Consider testing a different upselled product, enabling free shipping, or rewriting the head description to improve results.
Market intersection pitfall
If either the base product or the upselled product has its market availability changed after the upsell is created, the countries where the offer appears will automatically narrow or expand to match the new overlap. If one product is removed from all markets the upsell will effectively stop showing to any customer. Check the Markets column in the upsells list to confirm the expected countries are still shown.
