What the app does
The Microsoft Clarity app adds Clarity's free tracking script to every page of your store. Clarity then records visitor sessions and builds heatmaps of clicks and scrolling. You watch them in your Clarity dashboard. To learn what session recording is and how Clarity compares to Contentsquare, see How do I record visitor sessions and heatmaps with Microsoft Clarity or Contentsquare (Hotjar)?
Before you start
- Go to clarity.microsoft.com/projects and sign in with a Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account.
- Create a new project and enter your store's website address.
- Copy the Project ID. You find it in Clarity under Settings, Overview. It is a short code of letters and numbers.
When Clarity offers ways to install the code, you do not need any of them. Storeep adds the code for you.
Set up the app in Storeep
- Open Apps, Microsoft Clarity and click Install.
- Make sure Activate is on.
- Paste your ID into Project ID.
- Click Save. You see "Microsoft Clarity has been updated successfully".
The settings
- Activate: when on, Clarity monitors visitor interactions and records sessions. Turn it off and click Save to stop recording. Your Project ID stays saved.
- Project ID: your Clarity project. Required while Activate is on. To use a different project, paste the new ID and click Save.
Cookie consent
Storeep gives Clarity consent for you, so Clarity does not show its own cookie banner to your visitors.
Check that it works
- Open your store in a normal browser window and click around for a minute.
- In Clarity, open your project. The first sessions usually show within a few minutes to a couple of hours.
Common problems
- "Please enter the project ID": the ID is empty while Activate is on.
- An error saying the project ID is too long: you pasted more than the ID, such as the whole tracking code. Copy only the Project ID.
- No recordings in Clarity: check that Activate is on, that the Project ID matches the project you are looking at, and that you tested with ad blockers off.
- Some visits are missing: visitors that Storeep flags as bots are not recorded. This is on purpose.
