Builder sections and blocks

How do I change the look of my policy pages (Policy section)?

Style the policy page that shows your privacy policy, terms of service, refund, shipping, and cookie policies: the Policy section, the reading time, width, colors, padding, custom CSS, and where to edit the policy text.

3 min read

Your store policies (privacy, terms of service, refund, shipping, and cookie) all use one design: the Policy page. Its main section, Policy, shows the policy title, its text, and, if you want, the date it was last changed. The section is required on this page.

Where to edit what

Where to find it

  1. Open the builder and choose Policy page in the Pages tab.
  2. The builder asks you to Select a policy. This only changes the preview: your design is used for all your policies at once.
  3. Click the Policy section.

Section settings

  • Reading time: shows about how long the policy takes to read, next to the date it was last saved. The date itself always shows under the title, written in your store language, so customers can see that the policy is current.
  • Section width: Page keeps the text at your page width, Full lets it go edge to edge. For long texts, Page is easier to read.
  • Color scheme: the background and text colors.
  • Padding: space around the text. The section allows more padding than most sections.
  • Custom CSS: your own styles for this section only, for example a narrower text column.

The Policy section has no blocks. You can add other sections above or below it, for example a Text section with your contact email.

Show or hide the reading time

  1. Open the Policy page in the builder and select the Policy section.
  2. Turn Reading time on or off. It is on by default.
  3. Click Publish. The last saved date always shows and changes on its own each time you save the policy text.

Good to know

  • Text size, bold, lists, images, and links inside the policy come from the policy editor.
  • The page title in the browser tab uses the policy name.
  • Each policy keeps its own address, for example https://example.com/policies/refund-policy, but they all share this one design.
  • Each market has its own policy page design and its own policy texts. If you sell in several countries, check every market.
  • An unpublished policy opens your 404 page instead. See How do I customize my 404 (page not found) page?
  • Links to your policies in the footer come from the Privacy links footer block. See Footer section.

Troubleshooting

  • The preview shows sample text: no policy is selected yet. Pick one with Select a policy.
  • The date does not show: save the policy text in the policy editor, then publish the builder again. The date always shows once the policy is saved.
  • Shoppers see a not found page: the policy is not published. Turn on Publish for it in that market's policy editor.
  • My change of text does not show: policy text is saved in the policy editor, not by publishing the builder.
