Builder design and settings

How do I stop visitors from copying my text and images or right-clicking on my store?

Use the builder Prohibitions tab: prevent copying, selecting text and images, the right-click context menu, inspecting the page with developer tools, and stop the header logo from linking to the home page. What these protections can and cannot do.

The Prohibitions tab makes it harder for visitors to copy your product text and photos. It also controls whether your header logo links to the home page.

Where to find it

Open the builder, click the gear icon, and open the Prohibitions tab. It has two parts: General options and Header.

General options

  • Prevent copying texts and images: copying from the page puts nothing in the clipboard. Images cannot be dragged out or reached with the mouse. Keyboard shortcuts to save the page, view the source, print, and open developer tools are also blocked.
  • Prevent selecting texts and images: visitors cannot highlight text, so there is nothing to copy.
  • Prevent accessing the context menu: right-click does nothing, so "Save image as" and "Inspect" are not in reach that way.
  • Prevent inspecting the page: Removes the page content if inspection is detected. If a visitor opens the browser developer tools, the page empties. It also blocks the developer tools shortcuts, such as F12. This check only runs on computers with a mouse or trackpad, not on phones and tablets.

Prevent clicking the logo to go home: Turn on to show the logo as a plain image that does not open the home page. Off (the default), clicking the header logo opens your home page. Turn it on for a single product store or a landing page where you do not want shoppers to leave the page.

What these protections can and cannot do

These settings work inside the visitor's browser. They stop casual copying, such as a right-click and save or a quick copy and paste. They cannot stop a determined person, for example someone who takes a screenshot or uses other tools. Turn them on to make copying slower and less tempting, not as a lock.

For stronger protection, the Spy Blocker app goes further: it blocks visitors who try to copy content or open developer tools. While Spy Blocker is on, copy, right-click, and inspect protection are active even if the switches here are off.

Things to check after turning them on

  • Test your store yourself. With Prevent inspecting the page on, opening developer tools on your own live store empties the page too.
  • Shoppers still need to fill in forms. Place a test order on a phone and a computer after turning these on. See Test orders.
  • Selecting and copying is also how some shoppers save an address or a product name. If you sell to customers who need that, leave Prevent selecting texts and images off.

Good to know

These settings belong to the market you are editing. Turn them on in every market you want to protect. Changes go live when you click Publish.
