What Mobile Money does
The Mobile Money app lets buyers pay with their phone wallet: MTN MoMo, Orange Money, Airtel Money, M-Pesa, Wave, MVola and others, depending on the country. The buyer picks Mobile Money at checkout, goes to the provider's secure page, and approves the payment on their phone. The money goes straight to your provider account, Storeep never holds it.
Providers and countries
You connect one provider for each market. The app only offers the providers that support that market's country and currency:
- CinetPay: Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon, Congo, DR Congo, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Guinea, Chad, Niger, Gabon, Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea. You need one CinetPay account per country.
- pawaPay: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, DR Congo, Congo, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, Gabon, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho and Ethiopia.
- Flutterwave: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Senegal and Burkina Faso. Its payment page can also offer cards.
- Moneroo: Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, DR Congo, Guinea, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Madagascar (MVola). One account covers every country, and the buyer only sees the wallets you turned on in your Moneroo dashboard.
- Papi: Madagascar, with MVola, Orange Money and Airtel Money in one account.
- Cartflox: connects the payment accounts you already have (PayDunya, Wave Business, FedaPay, CinetPay, pawaPay and others) behind one key, and sends each payment to one of them. The money still lands in those accounts, and Cartflox takes no commission. The countries you can sell in depend on the accounts you connect in Cartflox.
Providers only accept payments in the local currency of each country. A market priced in USD in a country that uses XOF, for example, cannot use Mobile Money. The app lists these markets so you know why.
Connecting a market
- Open Apps, find Mobile Money, and click Install.
- Open the app. Under Markets you can connect, click the market.
- Pick your provider. No account yet? Each provider has a link to create one.
- Enter the keys from your provider dashboard: an API key and API password for CinetPay, an Access token for pawaPay, a Secret key for Flutterwave, Moneroo or Cartflox, or an API key for Papi. The eye icon shows what you typed.
- Click Save. Storeep checks the keys with the provider before saving, so a typo shows up now and not at a customer's checkout.
Keys are never shown again after saving. To change a key, enter the new one. Leave a field empty to keep the saved key.
For pawaPay, Flutterwave, Moneroo and Cartflox, also add the callback address shown in the app to your provider dashboard. In Moneroo it goes under Developers, then Webhooks, and Moneroo also asks for a Hash secret: copy the one shown in the app under the callback address and paste it there. In Cartflox the address goes under Developer, then API and Logs. The callback address lets Storeep confirm an order even when the buyer does not come back to your store after paying.
Test mode
Turn on Test mode and use your provider's sandbox keys to try a payment without real money. Turn test mode off and enter your live keys before selling. For Flutterwave, Moneroo and Cartflox the keys must match the switch: Flutterwave test keys start with FLWSECK_TEST, Moneroo test keys start with test_ and Cartflox test keys start with af_test_, and saving a test key with test mode off (or a live key with it on) shows an error.
Full payment or deposit
In What the customer pays online, choose how much the buyer pays by phone:
- The whole order: nothing is left to collect on delivery.
- The delivery fee: the buyer pays the shipping cost now and the rest in cash on delivery.
- A fixed amount: for example 2,000 FCFA now, the rest on delivery.
- A share of the order: a percentage between 1 and 99.
A small deposit filters out fake orders and cuts refused deliveries, while buyers who prefer cash still pay most of the order on delivery. If the order has free shipping, or the deposit is larger than the order, the buyer simply pays the whole order online. Papi does not accept payments under 300 Ar, so a smaller deposit is raised to 300 Ar.
How orders are confirmed
A Mobile Money order is saved as abandoned until the provider confirms the payment. Storeep confirms it as soon as the provider reports the payment, even if the buyer closes the page. While the buyer still has to approve on their phone, the thank you page asks them to do so.
- Full payment: the order becomes Done and is marked Paid, like card payments.
- Deposit: the order becomes pending and follows your normal cash on delivery flow. The order page shows Deposit paid, the amount paid online, the amount To collect on delivery, and the provider's payment reference.
Courier apps that send your delivery partner an amount to collect receive only what is left to pay, so the buyer is never asked for money they already paid. If you use a courier app that sends product prices, check with your delivery partner that the deposit is taken off. In WhatsApp order messages, the Amount to collect tag shows the same amount.
Fees
On the Starter plan, Storeep charges 0.5% of the whole order on Mobile Money orders, with no minimum. Paid plans pay no fee on Mobile Money orders, and these orders do not count toward the plan limits. Your provider charges its own fees on top.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does Mobile Money not show at checkout? The market the buyer is shopping in must have a provider connected and activated, and the market currency must be one that provider supports.
- Can I use different providers in different countries? Yes. Each market has its own provider and keys.
- How do I stop using Mobile Money in a market? Turn off Activate in that market's settings to hide it, or select the market and click Disconnect to delete its keys.
