How do I copy and paste a section, a block, or just its style in the builder?

Copy a whole section or block and paste it on the same page, another page, or another market. Use Copy style only and Paste style only to give one element the look of another. What After, Inside, and Override mean, and why Paste can be greyed out.

In the builder you can copy a whole section or block and paste it somewhere else, or copy only its style and paste it onto another element of the same kind. This saves you from setting up the same design twice.

Where to find copy and paste

Every section and block has a menu with these actions. Open it in one of these ways:

  • Right-click the row of the section or block in the Sections tab.
  • Select it, then click the Menu button at the top of the settings panel, or right-click the top of the panel.

The menu has Copy, Copy style only, Paste, and Paste style only.

Copy and Paste: the whole element

Copy takes the section or block with all its settings and all the blocks inside it. Then open the menu of another element and click Paste. A short hint under Paste tells you where the copy will land:

  • Inside: the copy goes at the end of the element you clicked, for example a block pasted into a section.
  • After: the copy goes right after the element you clicked.
  • Override: the page or section already has the maximum number of this type, so the copy replaces the element you clicked. This only happens when both are the same type, for example pasting a header onto the header of another page.

To paste in an exact spot, right-click an Add new section or Add new block button, or the space between two rows, and click Paste. The hint then says at the beginning, at the end, or between sections or blocks.

What you copied stays ready while the builder is open, so you can switch to another page or another market and paste it there. It is cleared when you reload or leave the builder. Copying something new replaces it.

Copy style only and Paste style only

Copy style only copies the settings of the element itself, but not the blocks inside it. Then open the menu of another element of the same type and click Paste style only.

  • On a section, this copies its look and layout (color scheme, width, spacing, and so on). The text and images in its blocks stay as they are.
  • On a single block, the block's own settings can include its content. For example, a Button block keeps its label and link in its settings, and a Text block keeps its text. Pasting style from one button onto another also copies the label and link, so check them after pasting.
  • If the element you copied from is hidden, the element you paste onto becomes hidden too.

The style copy is kept apart from the normal copy, so you can hold one of each at the same time.

Why Paste is greyed out

  • Nothing copied yet: copy something first.
  • Limit reached: the page or section is full for this type.
  • Not allowed: this type cannot go there, for example a section that this page does not offer.
  • Type mismatch: Paste style only works between elements of the same type, such as button to button.
