What the Exit offer does

The Exit offer is a popup that offers a discount code when a visitor looks like they are about to leave your store. It gives them one more reason to order. The code is a real coupon from your store, so the discount works at checkout.

The section is marked Beta in the builder, so it may still change.

Add it to a page

  1. First create a coupon in Coupons. See coupons.
  2. Open the builder and go to the page you want.
  3. In the Sections tab, click Add new section and pick Exit offer from the Marketing group.
  4. Type your coupon code in Coupon code, fill in the texts, and click Publish.

You can add one Exit offer per page, on every page except checkout and thanks. Each page keeps its own copy, so add it to every page where you want it, for example the product and landing pages.

When it opens

  • On computers: when the mouse leaves the page through the top of the window, where the tabs and the address bar are. Moving the mouse out through a side does not count.
  • On phones and tablets: there is no mouse, so the popup opens when the visitor scrolls back up quickly. This only counts after the time you set in Wait before showing, and only once the visitor has scrolled past the first screen.

The popup never gets in the way of a buyer:

  • It opens at most once per visit. After it was shown, it does not open again on other pages until the visitor closes the tab.
  • It never opens on the cart, checkout or thank you pages.
  • It never opens on top of another popup, for example the checkout popup.
  • It stays hidden while Coupon code is empty.

What the visitor sees

The popup shows your heading, your text, the coupon code, and a button. When the visitor clicks the button, the code is applied to their order and the popup closes. They do not need to copy or type it. The code stays applied while they move to other pages in the same tab, and the order summary shows the new price.

If the code does not work (for example, you deleted the coupon or it has expired), nothing is applied and the visitor sees no error. Check your coupon if buyers say the discount is missing.

Visitors can close the popup with the close button, by clicking outside it, or with the Escape key.

The settings

Offer

  • Coupon code: the code to offer. It must already exist in Coupons.
  • Heading: a short title, for example Wait, here is 10% off.
  • Text: one or two sentences about the offer.
  • Button text: the label of the button that applies the code, for example Use code.

Mobile

Wait before showing: how many seconds a phone visitor must spend on the page before a quick scroll up can open the popup. It goes from 5 to 120 seconds (default 20).

Appearance

Color scheme: the colors of the popup and its button.

Preview it in the builder

In the builder, the popup shows while the section is selected, so you can style it. It does not wait for a real exit there. If no code is set yet, the preview shows a sample code.
