What the free shipping bar does
The free shipping bar is a progress bar with a short line of text. It tells buyers how close they are to free shipping, for example Add 50 MAD more to get free shipping or Add 2 more items to get free shipping. When they reach it, the line says You have unlocked free shipping and the bar is full. It updates as buyers change the quantity or the products.
The bar never invents an offer. It only uses a real free shipping rule from your shipping methods.
Set up the free shipping rule first
Go to Settings, then Markets, open the market, then Shipping. On a shipping method, set a Free shipping rule and a Free shipping amount. See shipping methods.
The bar only works with two rules:
- Cart total: the bar shows the money still missing.
- Item count: the bar shows the items still missing.
The Cart weight and Product price rules still give free shipping at checkout, but they do not show a bar.
Where the bar shows
There are three places, each with its own switch. All three are on by default. To find each switch, open the builder, select the part below, and look for the Free shipping bar group with its Enable switch.
- Order form: the Form block of the Product info and Landing info sections. The bar sits at the top of the order summary, so Summary must be on. The same switch also controls the bar in the checkout popup that opens from that form.
- Cart drawer or dropdown: the Cart block of the header. When Cart type is set to Page, this switch is hidden and the cart page switch is used instead.
- Cart page: the Cart section of the cart page. The bar sits above the subtotal.
Which rule each place reads
In the order form
The bar follows the shipping method the buyer has picked. If that method has a Cart total or Item count rule, the bar shows. If the buyer picks another method, the bar changes with it.
In the cart drawer, dropdown and cart page
The buyer has not picked a method yet, so the bar reads the active methods of the market that are set to All products. Methods limited to some products are left out, because they could promise free shipping the buyer never gets. If several methods have a rule, the bar uses the easiest one to reach. A Cart total rule is used before an Item count rule.
Coupons and the bar
For a Cart total rule, the discount from an applied coupon is taken off before the total is compared with your amount. This is the same way the checkout works out free shipping, so the bar and the shipping price always agree. For example, with free shipping from 300 MAD, a 320 MAD cart with a 50 MAD coupon still needs 30 MAD more.
When the bar stays hidden
- Its switch is off for that place.
- In the order form, Summary is off.
- The picked method (order form) has no Cart total or Item count rule, or uses Free shipping or Calculated later pricing.
- In the cart, no active All products method has a Cart total or Item count rule.
- In the cart, one of the market's All products methods is already free, so there is nothing to unlock.
